Figawi means: Annual sailboat race between Cape Cod and Nantucket at the beginning of summer. The race has grown to be a weekend-long event on the island and serves as an excuse for people to walk and get drunk around town. As long as the townsfolk and all of their contstants have drunk copious amounts, it doesn’t matter who wins. According to legend, the word “figawi” is derived from drunken sailors who landed on Nantucket with a New England accent and asked the question: “Where are the fuck?” (in Community Dictionary, added by Camryn Stanley)
