Cotton McKnight announces that a final-round elimination by double faults has never occurred since the Helsinki episode in 1919. This is a reference to Oona Maarit, a Finnish maiden who was held as an armed rebel during the Finnish Civil War of 1918. She was held prisoner at Suomenlinna, Helsinki’s fortress island. One of the camp guards executed Jarno Enestam. She plotted to revenge her lover’s death by arranging for her brother to be executed that night. He was taken prisoner on the fortress island of Suomenlinna in Helsinki. He entered the bunkhouse and compound in pitch black. After slaying the guard, he returned to his bunkhouse. He ended up visiting the wrong bunkhouse, and he strangled the young woman trying to give birth. This is why the “double-fault final play elimination” reference was made.
