- Currahee Mountain forms the Blue Ridge mountain chain. Currahee, the Cherokee name for Currahee is “Stands alone”. The mountain was again part of World War 11. Currahee was chosen by the U.S. Army as its Parachute Infantry Training Center, to be called Camp Toccoa. This camp was different from other parachute jumpers who were trained elsewhere in that they shouted “Currahee”, instead of the more common “Geronimo”, as they leapt. The government gave the facilities to the county after the war ended. The area was used for an industrial complex in 1972. Currahe is the name of US paratroopers who fought in WWII.
