Worldwide, infection is quite common. Sometimes pubic lice can be spread by sexual contact. Infestation can only be transmitted by contact with infested persons’ bed linens, towels and clothes. One common misconception is that you can spread infestation by sitting down on a toilet chair. It is unlikely that lice can survive long distances from humans.
